Viewing the Entire World: A Poem

After reading Stratford Caldecott's work Beauty for Truth's Sake, I wrote down a few stanzas. This was a few months ago. Like a lot of my writing projects, it just lived here on my computer. I don't pretend to be much of a poet, but I did try to apply a consistent meter and rhyme scheme. I figured I might as well share this with you. I'm open to feedback, and I hope you enjoy.

The darkest lie that we've been sold

About reality

Is that every story can be told

Horizontally.

Nothing comes from a higher place,

No verticality.

Nothing above but outer space

Stretched expansively.

This vision of the world is poor,

Intellectually,

Our experience shows us far more

Conceptually.

Some vital answers must be chased,

Not scientifically.

They require solutions that are traced

Philosophically.

We understand that there are parts

About reality,

That do not quite fit within our hearts

Horizontally.

A world without a divine spark

No verticality

Finds signs that show an artist's mark

Stretched expansively.

Made in the image of the Lord

Intellectually

Our view of the world can be restored

Conceptually.

All that is truth can't be measured,

Not scientifically.

Man's way of viewing should be treasured

Philosophically.
